Biography
Alexander Milovanov is one of the most prominent classical guitarists of his generation, recognized for captivating audiences with profound musical insights and stunning virtuosity. Alexander has performed numerous solo recitals internationally and in major cities across the United States, including New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Baltimore, Austin, and Saint Petersburg, Russia. He has also performed at the Walt Disney Concert Hall alongside soloists of the Los Angeles Sinfonietta Orchestra under the direction of James Kim. Alexander has been a guest artist in several prestigious concert series, including Kean Concert Artists and Bedford Chamber Concerts. He has performed with members of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Anthony Newman. In addition to formal concerts, Alexander has also done numerous community outreach performances and benefit concerts.
Alexander received top prizes at major competitions, including the International Concert Artist Competition of the Guitar Foundation of America and the Boston GuitarFest International Competition. Additionally, he won a Silver Medal in the professional category of the Vienna International Music Competition, where he competed with various classical string players. Notably, Alexander is the first solo classical guitarist to win the prestigious Beverly Hills National Auditions contest.
Alexander holds a Master of Music degree from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, where he studied with Ray Chester, Manuel Barrueco, and Julian Gray. He completed the Artist Diploma program at the Yale University School of Music as a full scholarship and fellowship recipient under the guidance of Benjamin Verdery. Additionally, he earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin under the guidance of Adam Holzman.
Dr. Milovanov is a faculty member at the French Conservatory of Music in Beverly Hills, CA. He also teaches at the South Bay Guitar Academy in Torrance, CA, which he founded. Originally from Belarus, Alexander has been a U.S. citizen since 2010.
